JaiPure Yoga (Montclair, NJ)
The ribcage is an amazingly Yogic structure. Firm and stable enough to protect the vital organs residing within, yet supple and flexible enough to facilitate a profound relationship with the world around us. Our breath.
In this inventive and playful Iyengar Yoga workshop we’ll explore ways to use props (the rope wall, the yoga chair, traction belts) and create sequences to strengthen, understand, and free the Thoracic spine, the rib cage and the many layers of muscle that interact and affect our breathing!
Moving Mountains: A Celebration of Hanuman
Sunday Apr 14, 2024 / 2:00PM
Jaipure Yoga / Montclair, NJ
On the auspicious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, come celebrate Hanuman’s spirit of devotion and strength, and explore Hanumanasana—the vibrant pose embodying the beloved monkey warrior of the Ramayana.
Bob Gilbo will share monkey tales and monkey tails—narratives and artwork depicting Hanuman, followed by Matt Dreyfus and Tzahi Moskovitz, who will lead a playful and dynamic sequence moving toward Hanumanasana. As the son of Vayu, the wind deity, Hanuman is the master of prana. Honoring this spirit, our practice will emphasize the integration of the breath. B.K.S. Iyengar reminds us of his profound connection with breath: “As Hanuman brought about the reunion of Sita and Rama, pranayama brings about the reunion of the sadhaka with the atman.”
Join us to explore how far bhakti, sakti, and prana can take you; who knows--you might leap an ocean or move a mountain!
Hips ~ Stability and Freedom
Sunday, Mar 09 at 2:30PM
The hips are unique joints.
They are involved in every step we take on this earth.
They bear the weight of the trunk throughout the day, and have the mobility and agility to move in different ranges of motion. A Yoga practice is a wonderful way to ensure the hips remain steady and stable to bear the load and flexible to move freely.
In this inventive and playful Iyengar Yoga workshop we’ll use Asana and props in creative ways to both strengthen the hips as well as deeply stretch them.
So that we can experience the empowerment and freedom of a balanced hip joint.
My writings on yoga, art, family, travels, plus occasional updates on courses, workshops, and retreats.
